Our Story & Vision: 1992-99 Malta; 2014 & 2022 London

The original Sceptocrypt formed on the island of Malta in 1992. Being from the smallest nation in Europe did not temper their intent: to forge a sound wholly theirs’. Its founding members being staunch members of the underground scene, running Rancid Soup zine & radio show, and music scholars alike, always keen for original sounds, as inspirations and as their own. Releasing only a demo & a rehearsal tape in its timespan to 1999, Sceptocrypt’s idea was received warmly by the leading press of the time – like Aardschock (NL), Fight Amnesia (DE), Ill Literature (USA), Koito (IT), MorticiaNumskull (NL), Dusk Woerot (Colombia), Death Bite (Lith), Fanfare (BE), Brutalism.com (NL), Eternal Darkness (USA), etc. – with worldwide reviews as Metal…

Meet founding member Malcolm

Sceptocrypt guitarist Malcolm

Sceptocrypt co-founder Malcolm moved to London back in 2007 forming and releasing 2 CDs with avant-world-noir act EthnaMorte until they folded in 2014, when he started re-composing for Sceptocrypt. A music tutor by profession, but also an adversary to musical comfort zones by choice, Malcolm’s creed has always been to challenge not conform to tradition. From how Sceptocrypt respects its extreme metal heritage but is not confined by it, to other bands he collaborated to over the years, as can be viewed at malcolmcallus.com. He also has a finger in the journalistic pie, most known as ex-editor/DJ for his own Rancid Soup zine & radio show, and reviewing contributor for both the Aussie Black Death Zine and Dutch portal brutalism.com!…

Line-up complete – Jacek joins on samples & synths

Sceptocrypt synth player Jacek

Sceptocrypt is known for always having a keyboardist as a regular band member, an addition we find elevates a live performance more than just playing to backing tracks. After a good while searching, and having been trying ideas with him for a couple of months, we announce you the latest to our camp – Jacek! Dedicating his life to a triumvirate of passions in the form of music, writing, and cooking, Jacek knows that music, like literature, won’t be good unless it has flavour. His musical journey began with the bass guitar, to which he devoted his life for many years playing with several bands and recording guest bass lines back in Poland. He then went on a short hiatus…

New drummer Mark Andrews

Sceptocrypt drummer Mark

Due to a foot injury, Dr S had to step down as our drummer. We wish him well, as we welcome his replacement Mark Andrews. Playing drums since his mid-teens, Mark finds himself comfortable playing anything from free flow to hard hitting, while adding a groove-focused swing to it all. As a band and with every rehearsal, we can confidently say that he elevating the riffs thrown his way to make the ritual of playing the songs more rewarding. His presence on the UK scene is/was with death metal stalwarts Helestios, the symphonic metal Deity And Devilry, and finally a heavy metal covers band called Entropy. This varied experience is making him learn quite fast, and we hope to share…

Welcome new bassist Skyler (incl. link to a jam with 1996-99 bassist Johann)

Sceptocrypt bassist Skyler

Quite an announcement here as we welcome our youngest member to date in the form of new bass player Skyler who joined Sceptocrypt earlier this year. Besides lending his skills on 5 string bass, the chap came aboard the Sceptocrypt ship in full swing as he is also programming drums for an upcoming release, of which he is also taking recording, sound engineer and pre-mixing duties. Skyler is multi-talented, and we look forward to present his contributions on record and live later this year. For now, at https://www.instagram.com/p/DJAUuxWOcan/ you can enjoy a 3-bassist jam between Skyler, Malcolm (our guitarist) and our 1996-1999 bass player Johann who was currently visiting London.
